I am writing this blog about career goals on the side of Highway US 1.

I’m sitting at a picnic table next to a Mexican food truck.

My car is in the auto shop across the street getting a new tire.

I got a flat on my way to the computer shop to get my laptop repaired.

So I have no car and I have no laptop.

I do have a phone and  this is my message: 

Be Unstoppable!

My commitment at this hour today was to speak with my coach, business partner and writing partner, Kristen Ambercrombie, to create a blog topic. 

Circumstances beyond my control tried to stop that from happening, but not today!

I write this blog entry while the chef in the food truck prepares a delicious enchilada. I will be eating lunch any minute now, so I’m making productive use of this time.

We all can be unstoppable.

We can easily allow ourselves to be sidelined by obstacles, setbacks and outages.

However, when you are truly committed to a goal then nothing will stand in your way.

You will see obstacles as opportunities to double down on your commitment and your vision.

This is true when it comes to your career goals as well.

For example, you may interview for a great new role and be offered the job but at a much lower salary than what you’d expected.

This is an opportunity to recommit and refine your strategy. 

To be unstoppable.

Instead of getting stuck in feelings of discouragement, this is a great time to:

1. Identify what leverage you have to negotiate 
2. Explore various “chips” that could make up the gap in salary
3. Circle back to people you’ve spoken to about other opportunities 

 

Sometimes, it can be challenging to know where to begin.

Remember two things:

1. Job offers are always negotiable
2. And, we are here for you
