That is not passivity. It is the kind of discipline that hiring managers quietly respect and rarely forget.
Then comes the move that costs many people the opportunity.
They follow up without adding anything.
“Just checking in.”
“Any updates?”
Two phrases that have ended more job searches than most executives realize.
Every follow-up should bring something real with it.
Perhaps a thought from your conversation or an article connected to something they shared. Anything that says, “I am still thinking, still sharp, still the right person for this role.”
In chess, the players who last longest are not the ones who move fastest. They are the ones who move with purpose.
