Networking Into the New Year
The holiday season and the beginning of a new year are excellent times to make new connections and deepen existing relationships. We touched on some of these topics in our holiday advantage blog post, especially regarding how to thrive during a holiday season job hunt.
I had a conversation with a client today that confirms what we find most frequently every year - as the year winds down, schedules and workloads slow down for people which creates more open time and freedom for casual conversations, making connections, and networking.
So, when you ask someone to get together for an eggnog or a virtual mulled cider, they're much more likely to say Yes!
As the pace slows, and the magical feeling of connection is more prevalent, conversations with old and new friends alike naturally lean towards personal and professional life updates.
This is an ideal time to both expand AND deepen your network.
It’s an opportunity to shift the flow of the conversation from “What can you do for me in business or my career” to questions like:
“How was your year?”
“What are your goals for the new year?”
“How can I help you?”
These questions simply make a relationship richer and more meaningful on a personal and professional level.
And, be prepared to answer similar questions in return.
If you do have a specific request for someone, this is the time to ask.
And, by networking into the new year, you are creating and building relationships through conversations that will forever be remembered as time spent during a nostalgic season.
It’s the season for giving and receiving, so there’s no better time to give your time and presence while receiving the same in return.
We want to take this moment to say Thank You to everyone for reading our blog and to wish you abundance, good health, and happiness this holiday season and into 2024
